英文老師的破冰遊戲

學習重點

我們在報自己的名字時,也是會用類似方式「雙木 林」或「雙人 徐」,但是英文的名字拼法台灣學生卻不是那不熟悉,這也讓我當初在英國念書時,有吃了一點苦頭。(電話上要報我的英文名字,對方問我怎麼拼,我一時腦袋空白)

aka = also known as”亦稱為”或“又叫做”

FYI = = for your information

A great icebreaker for teaching English that I created is the Phonetic Name Game (aka PNG). This is a very valuable tool for teaching because it gets students thinking laterally while learning a valuable fact about communication and pronunciation – The Phonetic alphabet is used worldwide and it’s a standard way of spelling words in English – For example, A for Alpha – B for Bravo – C for Charlie etc right through to Z for Zulu…..a difficult word to pronounce due to the “Z" sound – Thus by getting students to spell their names in themes such as food theme – for instance GAVIN, would be Grape, Apple, Vegetables, Ice-cream Noodles – will help them increase their vocabulary as well develop their problem-solving skills…..for the advanced student you could use difficult themes like sport, cities or countries (and my favourite, medical instruments……FYI I spell Favourite with a U – that’s English spelling not American)

【大略翻譯】
在課堂上我很常用一個破冰活動,我把它稱做「名字拼音遊戲」,我認為這是一個很棒的英文遊戲,可以讓學生一邊思考一邊學習發音和溝通技巧,「名字拼音」在全世界上有一個標準的拼音方式,例如A for Alpha – B for Bravo – C for Charlie 一路到最後一個字母Z for Zulu,同時也是最難發音的字母。

我會額外增加主題式的單字量,舉例來說,如果只能挑「食物」類的單字來拼GAVIN – Grape, Apple, Vegetables, Ice-cream Noodles ,這樣的練習無形中也是在測驗學生解決問題的能力。

若是程度比較好的學生,會把主題換成比較困難的,像是運動、城市或國家,而我個人偏好的主題是醫療器材。

另外,「最愛Favourite」」這個單字是有U的,這才是英文拼法,不是美式拼法(favorite)
