學習重點
* missus = wife =老婆
* check out (或look)=確認
* 若餐廳的服務生想用英文說沒有位置,應該是「Not Available」或「No Tables」。
* 若我們在國外用餐,假設是4人用餐,則應該要說「table for 4」
Last month I went to a restaurant and the missus (that’s wife in English) asked me to check out (look) if we could get a seat without a reservation. It was during the Moon festival and a BBQ place so I didn’t fancy my chances (that means I didn’t think we would get a table) – When I spoke to a very enthusiastic waiter (practicing his English skills) about if a table was available he said it’s a “No Sale" – I did try to joke with him and mention that I didn’t want to buy the table and that I just wanted to sit down and have a meal…..of course, he kept repeating “No Sale, No Sale" – what he should have said was, “Not Available" or there was “No Tables" or at least told me a time to come back when he had a table available – So grammar and vocabulary can be very important if you’re dealing directly with the public.
【大略翻譯】
上個月我們去餐廳吃飯,我太太請我進去確認一下沒有訂位的話,是否有位置。那天是中秋節,又是間烤肉餐廳,我不認為我們可以進得去。當我跟詢問服務生,而對方也很熱情得跟我說英語,他說「no sale」當時我開玩笑說,我沒有要買桌子,我是想知道有沒有位置可以用餐,但對方依然不斷重複「no sale」,其實他要表達的應該是「Not Available」或「No Tables」。
